What causes restricted airflow in a joint?
Clogging is usually a packing problem, and packing starts at the grinder.
A joint that will not pull is rarely a mystery. Air has to travel the full length of the pack, and anything that narrows or blocks that path raises resistance.
Common contributors
- Over-compression while packing
- Very fine material migrating downward and sealing the path
- Large fragments creating voids that collapse when tapped
- Moisture in the material causing clumping
- A filter or crutch packed too tightly
